The International Criminal Court (ICC) was hit by a “sophisticated” and “targeted” cybersecurity attack, according to a statement.

“Late last week, the International Criminal Court (“ICC” or “the Court”) detected a new, sophisticated and targeted cybersecurity incident, which has now been contained,” it said Monday.

Following a similar attack in 2023, the ICC said the incident was “swiftly discovered, confirmed and contained” while an analysis is ongoing to “mitigate any effects of the incident.”

“The Court considers it essential to inform the public and its States Parties about such incidents as well as efforts to address them, and calls for continued support in the face of such challenges. Such support ensures the Court’s capacity to implement its critical mandate of justice and accountability, which is a shared responsibility of all States Parties,” it added.

The German Foreign Ministry expressed “deep concern” about the incident.

“The international legal order and its institutions are a global civilizational success. Institutions such as the International Criminal Courts must not be undermined by threats or attacks,” it wrote Tuesday on X. (PNA)
